|He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing. Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt. (Deut 10:17-19)|
The consistent refrain heard all throughout Scripture and from the church over the last two millennia is, "I was estranged from God, and without hope, but he brought me in, adopted me, and gave me a seat at his table." Because we have been so well loved and welcomed in, we want to do the same for those most easily overlooked in our community: children in need of a home.
Our involvement in foster care and adoption is not a program. Rather, it is one part of our culture as a church where our love of children and the gospel meet. A growing number of our families are licensed foster families, or have adopted children. We also financially support Skookum Kids, and some of our members serve at the Whatcom County Pregnancy Clinic.
We hope and pray that many more Christians will be equipped to care for the fatherless and those in need of a home. "Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation." (Psalm 68:5)
