In July 1998, the Spirit of the Lord placed a burden on the hearts of the Wadhams to move from Cape Town, South Africa, to the U.S. to work with Native Americans. This burden increased with further study and reading literature such as Dee Brown’s Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and The Trail of Tears, telling the story of the relocation of the Cherokee to Oklahoma.
With Michael’s experience in ministry and continuing theological studies, and Lindie’s education in social work, they came to the U.S. and settled in North Carolina where they entered a full-time pulpit ministry on the Cherokee Indian reservation.
God later moved them to Charlotte, N.C., where for over 11 years they were involved in pastoral ministry and continued study. After completing a Th.M. in missiology Michael began pursuing the mission opportunity to the Lummi Nation in Washington State. Today they reside in Lynden, Wash., which is nestled between the Nooksack and Lummi reservations. They labor among the tribes through developing relations, evangelism, and mentoring/discipleship. The long-term goal is to establish Native churches in the region.
