Membership

Throughout the Bible, our God shows himself to be a God who loves to make promises and then keep them.  In fact, as Christians, the foundation of our whole faith is believing God’s promises to us, and resting on them for both our life now and our salvation.  He says, “I will be your God, and you shall be my people” (Lev. 26:12; Rev. 21:3).  And he has proven to be true to his promises by sealing them all to us in the blood of His Son, who was crucified on our behalf.

Therefore, as Christians being formed into the image of his Son Jesus, we will begin to be a promise-making people like him.  The biblical word for promise making is covenanting.  To make a covenant in the Bible is more than to make impersonal promises like in a legal contract, but to make relational promises of love, like in a marriage or family, both to God and to each other.  Therefore, one of the most natural aspects of the Christian life is to covenant with our church family.

Church membership is the way we covenant to one another.

 
 
 

To become a member just walk through the steps listed below:

1. Watch all CCB101 videos below.

2.  *Optional  - If, after you watch the videos,  you think "I have a list of questions that I would love to talk to a pastor or elder about before I formally seek membership" please email membership@christchurchbellingham.org

3. After you (and your spouse, if married) watch all 12 video, read our Membership Covenant.  

4. Then fill out our Membership Form online. 
     (If you would prefer to fill out a paper form please contact membership@christchurchbellingham.org)

5. Email membership@christchurchbellingham.org to set up a membership meeting with 2 pastors and/or ruling elders. Interviews will be done Tuesday or Thursday afternoons, or Sunday mornings. This meeting will include: 

  • Sharing your story

  • Asking any questions you have about CCB

  • Reviewing the membership covenant

  • Connecting you with opportunities to serve


6. We will receive you as members during a church service. Reception of new members is done the first Sunday of each month (as needed). These are the membership/baptismal vows we will ask you:

  • Do you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope save in His sovereign mercy? 

  • Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and rest upon Him alone for salvation as He is offered in the Gospel? 

  • Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomes the followers of Christ? 

  • Do you promise to support the Church in its worship and work to the best of your ability? 

  • Do you submit yourselves to the government and discipline of the Church, and promise to study its purity and peace?
