Christ Church Bellingham | Pastoral Internship Support - Abe Nienhuis

The church needs pastors.

About me

My name is Abe Nienhuis and my wife is Hannah, together we have a daughter named Phoebe and a baby boy on the way. I have worked in the local church, serving predominately in technology, for the past 3 years. During this time I have been carefully discerning God’s calling in my life to pursue pastoral ministry. I’m currently enrolled in Redemption Seminary’s Master of Arts in Biblical Studies program. I have a love for the local church and desire to see it grow in it’s fellowship and devotion to Jesus Christ.

The Coming “Succession Cliff”

The program

The goal of the pastoral development program of Christ Church Bellingham is to seek out and disciple young men to become faithful servants of Christ and to build them up to become leaders in the faith. This extensive 5 year program provides opportunities to earn practical experience in ministry, work and learn under a team of pastors, study and acquire an M.Div, and become ordained as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America.

The need

As part of the program, I’m expected to fundraise half of my annual salary. The total amount I’m seeking to raise is $2400 monthly by July 1st. After reaching these pledge goals, I will officially begin my internship with the Presbyterian Church in America in October.

The 30% Rule

According to data from the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) as of early 2026, only about one-third of graduating students report an intention to enter parish ministry.
